About the App

If you are on 10.10 or below (Yosemite, Mavericks, etc.) you can still follow this tutorial, but don't install sound flower 2.0b2. Have any questions/problems? Let me know down in the comments so. Soundflower is an open source kernel extension for MacOS, designed to create a virtual audio output device that can also act as an input. Initial development and maintenance of Soundflower was done by Cycling '74. In 2014, Cycling '74 passed stewardship of Soundflower to Rogue Amoeba, but we ultimately didn't have the time or resources to improve the product. If that doesn't suit you, our users have ranked 12 alternatives to Soundflower and eight of them are available for Mac so hopefully you can find a suitable replacement. Other interesting Mac alternatives to Soundflower are Loopback (Paid), VB-Audio Virtual Cable (Freemium), BlackHole (Free, Open Source) and Sound Siphon (Paid). Oct 19, 2014 SoundFlower - busted in Yosemite Boom 2 - lets you mute and set volume to 0, but all volume levels higher than 0 are the same. Kuwatec - not suitable for this purpose, as it has no UI so you can't send the output to the display. Sound Siphon - provides full volume control to your DisplayPort device. Then hit the button with the gear icon bottom left and select 'use this device for sound output' (you should still be hearing your iTunes output - it is now going to both Soundflower and the built-in speakers) Then In Quicktime: create a new audio recording in the popup menu next to record button select 'Soundflower (2ch)' as the input.
