Capture One Film Styles

Film Styles offers more than 200 film styles for Capture One to boost your workflow. Each style provides a unique look of the film photography legends: Ilford Delta, Kodak Portra, Agfa Scala, Polaroid, and many other popular films. Film Styles are approved by thousands of photographers worldwide. Advanced Film Emulation for Capture One Fuji Pro 400H is one of the most beloved modern negative films, with a timeless, balanced look that flatters almost any subject. It’s a little cooler-toned than its Kodak competitor, and wedding and portrait photographers love to push it a stop or two for beautiful pastel colours and soft skintones.

I have hundreds of Capture One styles in my collection; it’s a perfect source of inspiration.
Most of the styles for Capture One are not universal by design. They might fantastically enhance some images, but wreak havoc with others. That’s why it’s kind of a tough task to pick favorite ones.
However, I have a special folder with styles I use the most:

The best thing is that lots of my favorite styles are available for free! You will find links for a free download below, but first, let’s figure out what is so special about these ten styles?

1. Kodak Ektachrome mid-1970s

This powerful simplicity of increased contrast and cold shadows fits most of my travel photographs. Sometimes an image requires just a slight touch of this effect and setting opacity to 30-40% works perfectly in this case.

2. Teal

Teal is this rare type of style which fits portraits as excellently as street photography images.

3. Kodak Portra 400 UC

A film based style which works surprisingly well with entirely different images. This style has several variations, so you can find the one that best fits your vision of the development of this film.

Get all the versions of this style in the Film Styles Bundle or in the Film and Portrait Styles Bundle.

4. PX 100 Silver Shade

This style is always my first choice for B&W landscapes. In a single click, it creates a magical atmosphere on the image. Love it!
B&W tool in Capture One doesn’t support layers, but this style has four variations with different impact strengths, so you can find the right one for your image.

5. Clear and Simple

The name of the style perfectly describes why I have put it on the favorite list. Clear and Simple style works excellently for many of my portrait images and landscapes.

Get this style in the Portrait Styles Set or in the Film and Portrait Styles Bundle.

6. Ilford Delta 100

This is my favorite B&W style when I need a robust B&W look. Works like a charm!
I have several versions of this style in my collection, and I use all them regularly.

Get all the versions of this style in the Film Styles Bundle or in the Film and Portrait Styles Bundle.

7. Kodak Royal Gold 400 T-balanced

A pretty unusual style, though one of my favorites. The style has a powerful impact on your image and sometimes it is the magic you’ve been looking for. Though, I recommend you to try it with some moderate opacities as well.

8. Space Cadet

Space Cadet creates a stylish look of faded color. That’s why it fits images of almost any type when you need such an atmosphere.

Get this style in the Portrait Styles Set or in the Film and Portrait Styles Bundle.

9. Backwater Woods

A truly unique style. It develops a specific feeling of viscosity and serenity. It works terrifically when you need such a look.

10. Crystal

I love the fresh and clear look that this style creates. Crystal style works quite gently, so it’s more suitable for portraits. However, it might fit some travel and street photographs pretty well.

Get this style in the Portrait Styles Set or in the Film and Portrait Styles Bundle.

On Instagram, you apply filters to give your images a certain look – in other image editing software they’re known as presets. In Capture One, we call them Styles – instant looks that transform image elements like brightness and contrast in different ways. Simply select an image, apply a Style that suits your vision, hit export and voila.

Here’s a quick run-down of how Styles work:

What are Style Packs?

Styles are available in Style Packs. Each pack includes several different Styles inspired by a theme or specific aesthetic. For example, the Spring Style Pack is loaded with Styles inspired by spring colors.

Both Capture One Express and Capture One Pro come with three built-in Style Packs – completely free. That means you can begin applying Styles to your photos straight away.

For even more looks, browse the Capture One store for Style Packs developed by leading photographers, who each bring their unique aesthetic to Capture One. From looks inspired by vintage film cameras, sun-kissed landscapes or black-and-white photography, there’s a Style Pack to suit everyone and every image.

How to install Styles

Now it’s time to get working with Styles. Installing individual Styles or Style Packs to your Capture One photo editing software is simple, here’s how:

After purchasing and downloading Styles from the Capture One store, go to Adjustments > Styles > Import Styles and select the Style Pack from your downloads folder or other destination.

Or, open Capture One and drag-drop the downloaded Styles or Style Pack into the application window.

Applying Styles to your photos

Applying a Style to your photo is just as easy. Simply go to the Adjustments menu, select Styles and choose from Built-in Styles (your free built-in Style Packs) or User Styles (your purchased Styles.)

Below are some examples of images before and after applying Styles. The photos on the left-hand side are imported directly from the camera without any tweaks, while the second image has a Style applied. Look at the difference – in just one click, my photos come alive and are ready to share.

You can find the name of the specific Style I used under each image.
